There are multiple Military initiatives on the schedule of events during the Valero Texas Open. The Valero Texas Open not only raises funds for local charitable organizations, including several that support wounded warriors, but also celebrates the rich heritage of our city and state. The military is a key part of San Antonio and the Valero Texas Open. Many enlisted and retired men and women from the armed forces take leaves of absence to be volunteers at the Valero Texas Open. And from a historic perspective, the Valero Texas Open is the only PGA TOUR event to have been played on a military golf course (Fort Sam Houston Golf Course in 1950, 1951, 1956 & 1960). The freedom assured for us by those who defend America make events like the Valero Texas Open possible. We are proud to honor the armed forces.

USAA Welcomes military, veterans and their families to the tournament.

Military lives are different.  We’ve been there.  That is why, for the third consecutive year, USAA is proud to the be Official Military Appreciation Partner of the Valero Texas Open.  Throughout the tournament any MILITARY ID Card holder including dependents (Active, Guard, Reserve, Retired) are invited for FREE admission into the tournament along with FREE parking at Retama Park.  Just present your Military ID Card at the USAA tent in the Admissions area or at Retama Park.
